Geneva

Geneva was our last stop in Switzerland. It was our first city in the French-speaking part of the country, and has a very different vibe from the other cities we’ve visited because of it. It is an extremely historic city, and we got to visit an archaeological museum under the main cathedral that has ruins dating back to the Romans. As common with the Swiss cities we’ve visited, it’s located right along a lake. One of the main attractions is a huge fountain in the lake that sprays higher than 400 ft. We enjoyed more European and French food rather than the heavy traditional Swiss food we’ve been having up to this point.

One of the main highlights for me was visiting CERN with my dad. CERN houses the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which has been crucial to many discoveries in particle physics. We arrived early enough to get on a guided tour, which took us to the Synchrocyclotron, a now retired collider, as well as the control room for the ATLAS experiment.

Sadly, Allie and my parents are headed home today, but I’ll continue the tour with a visit to Barcelona and Madrid over the next week!
